British football superstar David Beckham is on a five-day trip in China.

As an ambassador for the Chinese Super League, the former England captain says he wants to help develop young players in the world's most populous nation.

Lots of limelight, smiling, handshakes...The star power of David Beckham finds its way into China.

The 37-year-old was named the ambassador for the Chinese Super League and the Youth Football Program in China in February.

And this is how he started performing his duty.

On Wednesday, he arrived in Beijing, where he visited two schools and had fun with young football players.

He also visited the Beijing Guo'an Club, a member of the Chinese Super League.

The next stop will be the eastern city of Qingdao before he goes to Wuhan in China's central Hubei Province.

Chinese fans hope Beckham's visit can rebuild the image of Chinese football, which has been tainted by corruption and match-fixing scandals.

But the superstar says he's not here to clean up anything, but to promote football among young Chinese, for the good of the future of this sport in China.
