Environment issues top agenda

The deputy secretary-general of the 12th National People's Congress Standing Committee announced on Tuesday that China's top legislature will prioritise environmental proposals, this year.

He Yehui, deputy secretary-general of the 12th NPC Standing Committee, said it will be devoted to dealing with deputies' proposals on improving urbanization and boosting environmental protection in key areas...

As well as beefing up irrigation infrastructure and reservoirs.

The proposals were singled out from the more than 7,500 proposals submitted at the first annual session of the 12th NPC, which ended in mid-March.

Other issues to be addressed include deepening medical reform and improving both ural and urban healthcare.

Wang Chen, a vice chairman and secretary-general of the NPC Standing Committee, urged officials involved to take steps towards meeting the legislature's goals...

And told special committees of the NPC to intensify supervision over them.
