On Saturday, commemorations have been held across China's southwestern Sichuan province to mourn the victims of an earthquake that struck a week ago.

Mourning started with the sound of sirens at 8:02 am, the moment the tremor struck exactly one week ago.

The center of the Lushan County, the epicenter of the quake, came to a standstill.

All observed three minutes of silent remembrance.

Mourners laid chrysanthemum in front of a banner printed with words of condolence.

The 7-magnitude quake has claimed nearly 200 lives and injured thousands of others.
