Russian police arrested four suspects in connection with the killing of three Chinese women on Friday.

The three women, in their 40s and 50s, went missing and were later found dead in Russia's southern Siberian republic of Khakassia on Thursday.

They came legally from the northeastern Chinese provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang to do farm work in Khakassia.

On Friday, China's Foreign Ministry urged Russia to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens in its country, and hand out severe punishment to culprits.

The ministry and the Chinese Consulate in Irkutsk attach great importance to the case, and have immediately launched an emergency mechanism.

Beijing says it'll do its best to help the families of the victims to deal with the aftermath.
