A leading Australian expert on Chinese affairs has said Japan and the United States are now on the outside, after the two countries declined to join the China-proposed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as founding members.

China's Ministry of Finance has announced that prospective founding members of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, or AIIB, has been finalized at 57.

Professor James Laurenceson of the University of Technology Sydney says the United States and Japan have now lost their chance.
