I went to Japan in 2009 after my gradation. At that time, I found in Japan the musical industry was developed well, and they had several big companies running the business. But their mode hadn’t appeared in China yet, so I had the idea to introduce musicals to China.

After I came back, I found Joseph, my teacher in university, he is a very famous director in Broadway. I told him that I want to introduce musicals to China, and we hit it off. Then we talk about what our first show should be, his first reaction was that he recommended Man of La Mancha to me. He thought it’s the best play in the musical history. I was curious, so I read the script that night, and my tears poured down. I called him in midnight, and said ‘Let’s do this!’

Many Broadway shows are hard to translate from English into Chinese, and to resonate with Chinese audience.

Our translation standard is to make Chinese audience has the same feelings as the audience in the U.S. theaters when they watch the same show. So we cooperate with a foreign musical producing team to achieve this goal.

Currently, the market value of domestic musical industry probably would be less than one billion yuan. Generally speaking, in the developed countries, the box office revenue of musicals accounts for 30 percent to 60 percent of movies'. Considering this rate, China's musical market has the potential to grow.

When I started doing this business, I only had 30 percent chance of success. This is what entrepreneurship should be like, you have advantages only when everybody else don't see it as an opportunity or this market hasn’t emerged.

I think life is short, the biggest risk is that you never try it in these a few decades.

Firstly, we plan to gain a foothold in the musical market, then we want to become the best brand in China.

I hope one day, China will cultivate a musical industry like Broadway.
