Alibaba launches 'UC News' app in India

Alibaba Mobile Business Group, a subsidiary of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, has launched the 'UC News' app in India, the first outside China.
The company also announced its future strategy for growth in the burgeoning Indian market for mobile-internet users.

The company noted that the 'UC News' app, which is exclusively made for India, is a one-stop source of news content ranging from politics,  business, sports to entertainment.

"We launched the 'UC News' product in India for the first time and it's the first country we are focusing on. Because we found that India is a fast growing country for mobile internet. And we also found that a huge demand side from the users for the news. And we also found that our technology and innovation can help to make India a digital nation."
Indians' growing appetite for news-on-the-go has driven Alibaba Mobile Business Group into a new role of news content aggregator in India. 
The company's UC Browser data showed that 73 percent of its monthly active users consume news feeds, and each UC Browser user consume at least six pieces of news feeds per day. 
The company claims UC News brings together both traditional as well as new-media content creators on a single-platform and presents them to millions of mobile-internet users in India. 
UC Browser has more than 400 million monthly active users across the globe. 
India accounts 20 percent of this public, amounting to 80 million.

"I think Indians are one of the innovative country for internet and is also the fast growing market all over the world. So one...India already became number two largest internet users base countries. So we found that there was huge potential and opportunity for us in India."
According to the Internet and Mobile Association of India, mobile internet users in India are likely to surpass 371 million by the end of June this year. 
"As India opens up, more and more Chinese companies are making their forays into the country. And those who are already present in India are penetrating deeper in the Indian market. Alibaba Mobile Business Group is doing just that. But it is only a tip of the iceberg. Believe me, there are much more to happen in the future."
