7.5 magnitude earthquake hits South Georgia Islands

 BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale jolted South Georgia Islands at 3:32 p.m. on Friday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.


The epicenter was monitored at 55.3 degrees south latitude and 31.9 degrees west longitude. The earthquake was 10 kilometers deep.
