Britain midlands engine strategy

It was the birthplace of the industrial revolution, and now the British Midlands has revealed a multi-billion dollar strategy to transform itself again into an engine for economic growth.
The so-called Midlands Engine Strategy was released on Thursday.
It outlines how the UK Government plans to drive the huge potential of the English Midlands region and promote it to the world.
The plan calls for significant investment in skills, connectivity and local growth, for the area around Birmingham, England's second largest city.
Almost 500 million U.S. dollars has been set aside for the Midlands to support innovative projects, and improve transport links.
This will link in with High Speed 2, Britain's biggest rail project, and place the Midlands at the heart of the country's transport network.
The plan will also see support for an innovative project to create a global hub for space technology in Leicester.
In May this year, Birmingham and the wider West Midlands will become one of the regions to elect its first directly elected mayor. The new post will have powers over skills, transport and planning to drive local growth.
