Around 1,000 animal rights activists have rallied in Ukraine's capital city Kiev to protest against the mistreatment of animals in circuses.
Adressed in animal costumes, protesters rallied in Shevchenko park in central Kiev, demanding the parliament approve the law to ban animal exploitation in circuses.
The proposed law ban the use of animals in travelling circuses, stationary circuses, mobile zoos and wildlife exhibitions.
Earlier this month, the parliament approved the law's first reading making the cruel treatment of animals a criminal offense. A total of 243 lawmakers in the 450-seat assembly supported the legislation.
