China said on Monday that the United States is welcome to play a positive role in peacefully resolving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

Beijing also urged all sides to avoid taking provocative actions.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang made the comments in response to the remarks of U.S. National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster on Sunday.

McMaster urged the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to stop destabilizing behavior, saying it was the bottom line of the United States to stop the DPRK developing nuclear weapons and to denuclearize the peninsula.
