The Democratic People's Republic of Korea or DPRK has rejected a UN Security Council press statement.

The statement issued Monday condemned DPRK's missile test-firing.

According to the Korean Central News Agency, a DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman said the country, quote, "categorically and totally rejects the UNSC's statement which called into question its bolstering of nuclear deterrence for self-defense."

The spokesman stressed that the DPRK's right to self-defense was the primary criterion of sovereignty. He argued that any accusation against it was a threat to its sovereignty and an act of interference in internal affairs."

The DPRK test-fired a medium long-range ballistic missile on Sunday, hitting a target some 780 km away into the East Sea.

The UN Security Council and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday both condemned the DPRK's missile launches.
