Taliban Attack Kills 12 in Afghanistan

In Afghanistan 12 people were killed on Sunday after the Taliban attacked police headquarters in Gardez in the eastern province of Paktia。

Six were police and six militants.

The attack started after a terrorist rammed a truck bomb into a local Police Zone on Sunday morning.

Five attackers armed with guns and suicide vests arrived by vehicle and clashed with security forces after the explosion.

The fighting lasted several hours.
  
Over 20 civilians were injured by shrapnel and flying debris.  Nine officers were also wounded by the blast and bullets.

The explosion damaged the local police station, a police training center and several houses.

Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack on Sunday.
  
Taliban-led insurgency has been on the rise since April when the Taliban launched their annual rebel offensive and intensified attacks across the country.
