The British construction sector continued to bounce back in November, driven by housebuilding.

According to the purchasing managers' index - or PMI - construction rose to 53.1 in November.

The figure came in well above the 50 point mark, which separates a growing or shrinking sector.

Construction is now in its second successive month of growth, after spending much 2017 in decline.

The latest reading was the highest for five months and signalled a solid rate of business activity growth across the sector.

Housebuilding was again the biggest driver of growth, with survey respondents saying that strong demand and supportive policy had helped business activity.

However commercial construction continues to be weak.

Some firms said they were holding back spending due to a subdued economic outlook and Brexit-related uncertainty.
