Putin announces candidacy for 2018 elections

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Wednesday he will seek another term as president in the 2018 presidential elections.

Russia is scheduled to hold its next presidential election on March 18, 2018. Putin is expected to win by a landslide.

"Thank you very much. There is probably no better place and occasion for this announcement. Thank you for your support. I will be putting forward my candidacy for the presidency of the Russian Federation. Thank you very much, thank you!"
 
Putin was first elected as Russian president in 2000 and re-elected in 2004. From 2008 to 2012, he served as prime minister, before being elected to president again in 2012.

Several other candidates have also officially declared their intention to run in the 2018 presidential race.
