Uber tightens driver background checks

Uber says it's tightening standards for its driver background checks. The ride-hailing giant says it will now run checks every year.
Previously, there was no uniform policy on re-running criminal background checks on drivers.
However, Uber said that in 2017 it began requiring driver screenings every two years. And now the CEO said these checks will take place each year.
Some drivers have been accused of sexually harassing passengers, and Uber is facing a possible class action lawsuit by women who say drivers raped, assaulted, or kidnapped them.
Drivers applying to work for uber cannot have any convictions for felonies, violent crimes, or sex offenses.
