Russian President Vladimir Putin officially opened the new Crimean Bridge linking southern Russia to Crimea on Tuesday.
The construction of the Crimean bridge over the Kerch Strait started in 2015.
The move came after the incorporation of the former Ukrainian republic in 2014 and deterioration of relations between Russia and Ukraine.
Project officials say the cost of the bridge is estimated at around about 3.6 billion U.S. dollars.
The 19-km bridge is the largest in Russia to date.
It consists of two parallel routes for automobiles and trains.
The automobile track consists of four lanes.
The bridge's capacity allows a maximum of 40,000 cars a day to cross the strait, travelling at a speed of up to 120 km per hour.
