China aims to improve dairy industry

China on Monday unveiled guidelines to make a series of improvements to its dairy industry.
 
The guidelines were released by the General Office of the State Council.
 
By 2020, the country should have achieved substantial results in the supply-side structural reform of the dairy industry and made marked progress in modernizing the sector.
 
According to the guidelines, milk self-sufficiency should be maintained above 70 percent.
 
The guidelines said quality, competitiveness and the reputation of infant formulas must be significantly improved, and dairy supplies should better match demand.
 
The guidelines also laid out measures to improve cow breeding, dairy processing, product distribution and quality supervision.
