Panda Cub Celebrates 1st Birthday

This week, Giant panda cub Xiang Xiang has celebrated her first birthday, at Ueno zoo in Tokyo.
China Report has more.
 
A birthday ceremony was held for Xiang Xiang at the Ueno Zoological Gardens.
More than 20,000 Japanese citizens visited the zoo to celebrate the occasion.
Thousands of panda fans lined up outside the zoo, several hours before its opening.
As soon as it opened, fans ran into the panda hall to take photos and videos.

Xiang Xiang was born on June 12th last year, to mother Fairy and father Billy. She was the first giant panda cub born at the zoo since 2012.
In Japan, Fairy and Billy are known as Shin Shin and Ri Ri. They first came to Japan from China in 2011, under a 10-year lease agreement.
Xiang Xiang is the first panda to be born and raised at the zoo in five years.
Two days after Xiang Xiang was born, she weighed just 147 grams. According to the latest measurement, taken on June 5th, she now weighs 28.2 kilograms.

Xiang Xiang made her public debut in December 2017.
