A Venezuelan senior official has confirmed an attempted attack against President Nicolas Maduro on Saturday evening.
The attack happened as Maduro was giving a speech at an event commemorating the 81st anniversary of the country's National Guard.
According to the official, a loaded drone exploded close to where Maduro was standing, but he was not hurt.
The president called the attack an assassination attempt in a later address to the nation.
He blamed the attack on the far-right wing factions in Venezuela, Colombia and conspirators in the United States, saying they were responsible.
Some of those involved in the attack have been arrested and the investigation is underway.
