A 500-year-old Egyptian manuscript taken in the 1970s, has returned to its homeland.
Lifestyles has the story.
Called "The Summary of the Science of History," the manuscript is the first known Islamic study of historical theory.
It disappeared from Egypt in the 1970s.
But in April, the manuscript was spotted at an auction in London. The library presented documents proving its ownership, and managed to stop the sale.
The manuscript was finally reunited with the library last month.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): INAS ABDEL DAYEM, Egypt's Culture Minister
"Anything that has been lost from Egypt, especially from the National Library and Archives, is very important. We consider it as a national treasure, as we were lucky to retrieve the manuscript in just three months. Also it was great from the foreign sides to interactive and cooperate with us, surely with our documents that prove the manuscript belongs to us."
Egypt has seen thousands of its relics pilfered in recent centuries - many to private collections.
To help retrieve them, Egyptian authorities will step up their tracking of sales across the world.
