China-aid to help improve Nepal's health services

Chinese aid is helping Nepal upgrade and renovate its Civil Service Hospital.

Nepali Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Lalbabu Pandit, and Chinese Ambassador Yu Hong jointly inaugurated the China-Aid project?in the commencement ceremony?in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu.
Under the plan,?the Chinese government will construct a new three-storey Surgical Ward for Nepal's Civil Service Hospital, set up 120 beds, and install all necessary equipment.
The China-Aid program will also renovate the hospital's three?other buildings, which are 10 years old.
While addressing the commencement ceremony, Pandit said that the project will help provide quality health services to the general public.

"I am hopeful that with the help of China-Aid, we can provide easy access and quality health services to the general public."
The hospital has gained a good reputation in the city in a relatively short period of time. The minister said he himself receives medical care at the institution.
Mr. Pandit added that Nepal plans to develop the Civil Service Hospital into a medical college and postgraduate institution in the future, with a special focus on international standards.
Ambassador Yu said China will continue to support Nepal's health sector under the motto "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali."
According to a recent report, Nepal's Civil Service Hospital has provided high-quality and affordable medical services to over 1,000 people each day since the end of 2008.

"With the help of new building, people and civil servants will be getting the opportunity to have access of more beds, OPDs and treatment facilities in our hospital. This will be a great help for Nepali people."
The project's contractor, Guangzhou Construction Company Limited, said new construction and renovation work at the hospital should be completed within 731 days.
