German Q3 Industrial Production Still Negative

Added On November 9, 2018

German industrial output has shown a slight increase in September following a previous trend of monthly declines.

Figures by Germany's Federal Statistical Office showed that price and seasonally-adjusted industrial production rose by 0.2 percent in September compared to the previous month.
However, the German economy ministry noted on Wednesday that third quarter (Q3) industrial production was still negative as a whole at minus 0.9 percent.
The quarterly development was largely attributed to difficulties faced by the automotive industry in its transition to the new Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), which became legally-binding in the European Union in September.
The ministry expressed confidence that these "WLTP-related could be gradually resolved", and there will be a resulting "reinvigoration" of industrial production towards the end of the current year.
