Harbin celebrates snow festival

Northeast China's "ice city" Harbin is celebrating its 35th International Ice and Snow Festival.

The annual event started on Saturday.
Organizers said the month-long festival features nearly 100 activities including winter swimming and family ice sculpture competitions.
A total of 2,019 snowmen have been built on the city's frozen river, covering an area of 10 hectares.
This year's festival expects an even greater turnout as a new terminal opened at the Harbin Taiping International Airport in last April.
The event has become an iconic tourist attraction in Harbin and a major contributor to its booming winter tourism.
