Engineers have started laying track for a high-speed rail line in North China being built for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

The work is a branch line of the high-speed railway between  Beijing and Zhangjiakou, the co-host cities of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

"The biggest challenge we face at this section is that the slope is steep. The railway rises 30 meters for every one kilometer. We've never done track-laying in such a situation, so we've boosted the power of the track-laying machine and solved the problem."
The railway will link Beijing with Chongli district of Zhangjiakou city. Chongli will play host to all skiing and biathlon events at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
The track-laying is expected to complete in May and the railway will begin the test run in August, 2019.
Upon completion of the railway, travel time between Beijing and Chongli will be reduced to just under one hour.
