Stephen Perry on China-UK ties

Stephen Perry, chairman of Britain's 48 Group Club, collected his China Reform Friendship Medal on December 18th, 2018 in Beijing.
Recalling the moment he was awarded the medal, he said it was a special day in his life.
The 10 foreigners honored with the China Reform Friendship Medal are outstanding individuals, representing the thousands of international friends of China, who are intrinsically linked to China's reform and opening-up.

"It's not something I'm used to it so it was nice and made me feel warm when I first heard about it."
Perry took over as head of the 48 Group Club in 1993. The business association was founded by his father in the 1950s to help bridge relations between China and Britain.
Looking ahead, Perry believes that China is set to further raise the quality and standards of Chinese people's lives.

"And then you got a whole new completely new service industry which didn't exist before. And you know better than me, Alibaba and Tencent, companies like these are having an enormous effect on how the Chinese people live and buy their goods and carry out their lives but it's also having an effect way beyond the borders of China in the modern interpretations of the internet and digital technology."
Globally, China aims to help create a community of a shared future for mankind, so that the countries of the world can cooperate and enjoy sustainable development.

"And that means understanding Xi Jinping's philosophy of community of shared future and working out interpretations of it that make everybody feel secure and motivated. So I think that our work is to try and help people understand the next phase of Chinese development."
Perry also said Britain and China "can prosper together" especially in the context of the Belt and Road initiative.
