Houston Boat Show

Now to Houston, Texas, where more than 1,000 boats, including powerboats, pontoon boats, bay boats, and fishing boats, are being sold at an international boat show.

The 64th Houston International Boat, Sport & Travel Show kicked off last Friday.
It's been witnessing an ever diversifying trend on Houston's boat scene.
Bay boats are a staple of the show?because they're what people take out for fishing.
But pontoon boats have been gaining increasing popularity in the past few years.
Their price tag used to be under 10,000 U.S. dollars. Now, pontoon boats are fancier than ever. They have more than just a cover and few seats.
SOUNDBITE 1: JONATHAN WHITMIRE, Texas Marine General Manager
“There’s been a drastic increase in how nice the boats are, the prices on pontoons, and the options and things that you can get on. It’s gotten very diverse. Some manufacturers they’ll have from 10,000 dollars pontoons to 200,000 dollars pontoons.”
Last year, the boat show sales skyrocketed because people were eager to buy and replace damaged boats by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. This year’s crowd was smaller, and quieter.
But still, potential buyers welcome the event since anything they buy after the show is likely to cost them five to 10 percent more.
