Chinese company invests heavily in Chile

One of the largest conglomerates in China, the SDIC International Trade Company, is investing heavily in Chile's infrastructure and food.

The SDIC International Trade Company is particularly interested in Chilean agriculture for the country's geography and climate. 
 
And the overall increasing demand and decreasing supply in Chile's agriculture sector will raise its product prices.

"Of course they are very interested in agriculture in Chile. Chile will have more opportunity in 2050, when the world will demand more food. And those foods are going to have to be produced with less water and less soil."
 
Walker added that good trading relations between the two countries is another reason why the Chinese company chose to invest in Chile.

"It becomes very attractive given the history that existed between both countries. China is by far the main trading partner of Chile."
 
Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic ties with China, and China is Chile's largest trade partner.
