The chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board says the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is one of the world's most important initiatives in the 21st Century fit to galvanize the stagnant world economy.
Thomas Lembong, Chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board, said the BRI, which highlights infrastructure projects, would eventually stimulate economic activities and share the prosperity in countries participating in the BRI cooperation.

"I think the concept of the BRI is very appropriate. It gives what the developing countries precisely need, infrastructure. Meanwhile, China has developed expertise in infrastructure in the last 15-20 years. Extraordinary infrastructure development became an important drive to Chinese success."
Having visited China several times, Lembong believes that China is capable of intensifying BRI cooperation with relevant countries and carrying out infrastructure projects that will achieve common prosperity.
He said that Indonesia is now hosting the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project, which will demonstrate the actual benefits of the BRI in Indonesia.
Noting global concerns on environmental protection and climate change, Lembong suggested that massive implementation of environmental friendly technologies be used in BRI projects.
