A UN official says China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is extremely visionary and very timely, and able to help boost the common development of humanity.

SOUNDBITE (English) MIGUEL ANGEL MORATINOS, High Representative for UNAOC:
" I think from my point of view, it has a very clearly strategic thinking. It is a way of how to understand the challenges of today's world. One of the ways was to really reinforce the communication, interconnection and understanding between different countries, nations, cultures and civilizations."

Moratinos said the BRI has been able to address the majority of the issues that are essential for the development of humanity.

SOUNDBITE (English) MIGUEL ANGEL MORATINOS, High Representative for UNAOC:
"One Belt One Road is to connect people, connect ideas, facilitate the exchange of goods. But also, it has the cultural element, the people-to-people (exchange). So this interconnection is not only through infrastructure, through physical infrastructure or energetic infrastructure -- pipelines, roads, ports and airports, but also about how people live together, how people from the east part of China connect with the west part of Asia, Central Asia, Europe, the Mediterranean, and certain African countries."

Statistics show that over the past years, the initiative has received positive responses and support from over 100 countries and international organizations so far.

Moratinos has also expressed great concern over how to build a harmonious relationship among different civilizations.

SOUNDBITE (English) MIGUEL ANGEL MORATINOS, High Representative for UNAOC:
"China has historical, extremely powerful civilization, that had been influential at certain moment of history, it had not been so much involving in the current affairs of the international arena. Now, it's back. It's having this very important involvement in international relations. So everybody should recognize the weight, the tradition and the potential of the Chinese civilization. But then we have western civilization. It's going to disappear? No. we have to live together. They  have to combine together and respect each other, and bring in each of those the benefit, what is good for all of us."

Moratinos also repeatedly expressed his wish to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese Government.

SOUNDBITE (English) Miguel Angel Moratinos, High Representative for UNAOC:
"I think China brings us a tremendous instrument in order that our main object of the Alliance of Civilizations is to promote the understanding among different religions, different cultures, different civilizations. At the same time, to create the environment for the exchange of ideas, respect each other and working together, for living together."
