Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said Moscow opposes a military solution to the Venezuelan crisis.

He made the remarks following talks with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in the Finnish city of Rovaniemi.
Lavrov told reporters on Monday that they are categorically against a military action in violation of international law.
He said the use of force can only be authorized by the UN Security Council, or it can be used in response to aggression against a sovereign state.
Lavrov said he hopes that this understanding, shared by everyone including the U.S., will be the practical policy for Venezuela, saying a military action would be "catastrophic."
The Russian foreign minister added that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump have agreed to meet again when the opportunity arises.
As for his meeting with Pompeo, Lavrov called it "very good" and "constructive."
Earlier on Sunday, Lavrov reiterated Moscow's solidarity with the people of Venezuela and support for its president Nicolas Maduro.
