China grants 5G licenses to 4 companies

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT) on Thursday granted 5G licenses for commercial use.
It marks the beginning of a new era in the country's telecommunication industry.
China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Broadcasting Network are the first batch of companies that obtained the 5G licenses.
MIIT Minister Miao Wei said the 5G technology will establish a high-speed, mobile, safe and widespread new-generation information infrastructure.
Miao said the 5G technology is expected to bring new opportunities and buoy the growth of China's digital economy.
According to an official research report, the technology is expected to generate about 1.54 trillion 
U.S. dollars worth of economic output and over 3 million jobs between 2020 and 2025.
The MIIT said China, as always, welcomes enterprises at home and abroad to actively participate in the building, application and promotion of its 5G network and share the sector's development dividends.
