Pakistan reviews 5 years of development under CPEC

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) forum in Pakistan has organized a seminar in Islamabad.
It looked to analyze the overall socio-economic development from the project and the challenges being faced in moving forward.
Reviewing five years of cooperation under the CPEC, stakeholders from both countries discussed and analyzed the past and the future prospects of the project.
Faheem Sardar, Managing Director of TANGENT, an independent economic think tank, and a corporate advisor, said on Thursday that both Chinese and Pakistani private sector corporations have benefited from the CPEC.
However, he said that for Pakistan, the main growth will generate when small and medium-sized enterprises get the benefits from it.

"The big corporations in Pakistan and in China have both gained a lot from these projects. Big corporations in Pakistan have basically gotten infrastructure projects, development projects and that’s good for Pakistan."
On the other hand, Zhang Baozhong, Chairman of China Overseas Ports Holding Company Limited, said that within the span of five years, significant development can be witnessed in Pakistan, which has driven confidence in other countries to also invest in Pakistan.

"So now the people, not only the Chinese, are investing in Gwadar, but also Saudi Arabia, U.A.E and also our local companies are starting investing in Gwadar. That’s through CPEC that the confidence of the people has been established."
