China, Africa Discuss Human Rights & Development at UN

Chen Xu, China's Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva discussed development goals on Tuesday during a side-event at the 41st session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Chen said development is an eternal quest of human society, which represents the basis of addressing all issues and also holds their ultimate answers.
He said the international community needs to think hard about how to make progress together and to bring in more people to share development to promote and protect human rights. 
Cape Verde's Ambassador in Geneva said people need to advance both human rights and sustainable development goals, so everyone can realize their dignity and freedom. 
South Africa's ambassador at the UN Office in Geneva said without economic, social and cultural rights, civil and political rights will not be stable.

"It is very important to recognize that the development path of different countries may vary. It is important for international regime to recognize that different models of development can be applied." 
The UN Human Rights Council is co-sponsored by the UN Office at Geneva's African Group and the Permanent Mission of China.
Over 120 officials from more than 50 countries and international organizations attended the event.
