Amazon under eu antitrust investigation over data use

The formal investigation will assess whether Amazon's use of sensitive data from third-party retailers who sell on its marketplace is in breach of bloc's competition rules.

EU regulators will check whether the U.S. online giant uses data from independent merchants to gain an illegal edge when selling its own products.
Outgoing EU competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager said in a statement that e-commerce had boosted choice for consumers and reduced prices, adding that the EU has to "ensure that large online platforms don't eliminate these benefits through anti-competitive behavior."
The Commission, however, did not say how long the probe will take.
