The main event of the tournament kicked off in Shanghai on Tuesday.
A total of 16 global eSports teams will be competing for the prize pool of over 33 million U.S. dollars, nearly half of which goes to the champion.
The opening match started between China's PSG.LGD and Russia's VP, and the final winner will be decided after the 6-day tournament.
YANG SHUNHUA, Manager for Team RNG:
"China's DOTA2 achievements have been good, I think all the Chinese teams will work together to continue to maintain China's achievements in the world."
The International Dota 2 Championships has been held every year since 2011.
Previous events were held in Europe and mainly in North America.
This is the first time for the renowned event to take place in Asia and in China.
YAZIED "YAPZOR" JARADAT, Player of Team Secret:
"To be honest, we have felt like that Dota in China and in Shanghai have been developed for a very long time. So we don't really see many changes, because we feel like it there is no big difference from the West. So it's very impressive."
