Colombia's tech conference welcomes China as guest of honour

Colombia's International Information Technology and Communications Conference, the largest of its kind in Latin America, has welcomed China as a special guest this year.

At the opening ceremony on Wednesday, Colombian President Ivan Duque talked about his recent state visit to China. The president spoke highly of China's fast development in the technological sector.

"We went to Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park and there we saw the incubators of entrepreneurs were growing at an exponential pace. The number of new companies has seen a three-digit increase over the past three years. The health, education and banking sectors there boasts millions of clients."
Duque said that Latin America should not be left out of this development trend, while expressing his hope to make Colombia a center for the tech industry in the region. 
As special guests this year, representatives from China shared their views on how technology has transformed China and the world in a positive way.

"In recent years, economic and commercial relations between China and Colombia have developed quite a lot thanks to the great importance that the two governments put on them. The recent state visit to China by President Duque will especially help to lift our bilateral ties to a new level."
