In an exclusive interview with CNC, the Director General of the World Trade Organization, has hailed the upcoming China International Import Expo as a "clear commitment" to further opening up and integrating with the global economy. SOUNDBITE(ENGLISH) ROBERTO AZEVEDO, WTO Director General "I think what was clear from the first edition was the commitment of China to show that it was clear to them that integration with the global economy was the way forward, for China and for everybody else. This is something that they intend to transform into an ongoing process, and that is also a very positive outcome as far as I can see, and I'm very happy to see that the second edition is actually showing even more participation, on the part of company participants, countries." Azevedo also explained why opening up has been a wise decision and what matters to long term sustainable development. SOUNDBITE(ENGLISH) ROBERTO AZEVEDO, WTO Director General "I think opening up is always the best way to go. It is not surprising to us because we see this happening not only in China, we see this happening all over the world, so that was the right decision. What is important is that we keep it up, that we keep opening up and we keep reforming in a way that facilitates more integration not only of China abroad but also from those outside in China. So facilitating the environment for investments in China for foreign companies, connecting more to others, importing more, exporting more. All those inter-connectivities are fundamental if we are looking at long term sustainable process of development." This is the second year that the WTO has attended the CIIE as an international organization participant.
