Chinese Ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming says mutual respect between China and Britain is important for maintaining the sound development of bilateral ties.

Speaking at a "Young Icebreakers" dinner event on Friday, the ambassador said numerous obstacles have been overcome and remarkable successes achieved over the past 65 years since diplomatic relations were established  between China and Britain.
Liu said an important lesson learned during the course of China-UK relations was the importance of mutual respect. Both nations should respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, refrain from interfering in each other's internal affairs, and carry out equal-footed and mutually-beneficial cooperation.
Regarding to the Hong Kong issue, the ambassador stressed that the UK has no sovereignty, jurisdiction or right of "supervision" in the region.
He added that China has full confidence in "one country, two systems."
Ambassador Liu urged the British side to actively support HKSAR Government's efforts to end the chaos and restore order, support Hong Kong to maintain prosperity and stability, and create sound conditions for the healthy and steady growth of bilateral relations.
