Huge numbers of Chinese consumers stayed up late Sunday night for some great Singles' Day sales.
10 billion yuan or about 1.44 billion U.S. dollars worth of goods were sold on Alibaba's online marketplace, TMall, just 96 seconds after midnight.
Economy Report has more.
More than 22,000 overseas brands from 200 countries and regions participated in this year's biggest shopping spree.
The annual online shopping promotion was first launched back in 2009. People in China call November 11th "Singles' Day" because the date's digits resemble four "bare sticks," a Chinese term for bachelors.
Last year, Alibaba's Single's Day sales totaled 213.5 billion yuan.
