U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has asked the House Judiciary Committee to draft articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, as the White House braces for a Senate trial. World News has more. Speaking on Capitol Hill Thursday morning, Pelosi said she has greenlighted the drafting of articles of impeachment against President Trump for abusing his power for his own benefit. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH): NANCY PELOSI, US House Speaker "The president's actions have seriously violated the constitution, especially when he says and acts upon the belief. Article II says I can do whatever I want now, his wrongdoing strikes at the very heart of our constitution. The president leads us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt once again the election for his own benefit." However, Trump, who has denied any wrongdoing or a "quid pro quo," renewed his attacks against the months-long impeachment process in a series of tweets. Pelosi announced her decision following the House Judiciary Committee's first impeachment hearing against the president. The committee is reportedly considering issuing articles of impeachment for abuse of power and bribery, obstruction of Congress, and obstruction of justice. The White House has so far refused to cooperate with the impeachment proceeding, accusing Democrats of an unfair process, but suggested on Thursday that it would likely be part of the Senate trial.
