On Wednesday, Ge Fengjin shared his father's story at the invitation of a few local civil groups to mark the 82nd anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre.
Around 100 people attended the event.

Ge Fengjin's father, Ge Daorong, was only 10 years old when Nanjing fell to Japanese invaders. He survived the mass killing by escaping to a small area in the city that remained safe.

After the massacre, Ge Daorong dedicated his life to spreading the truth about what happened, to remember China's painful history and teach young people about the mass killings.

Nanjing Massacre expert Sun Zhaiwei discussed the historical background of the Nanjing Massacre and the details of the Nanjing battle. He said telling the truth is not about spreading hatred but about learning from history and striving for lasting world peace.

The Nanjing Massacre took place after Japanese troops captured the city on December 13, 1937. In one of the most barbaric episodes of World War II, Japanese forces then killed around 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers over a period of over six weeks.
