The U.S. government has imposed fresh sanctions on Iran, days after Iran's missile attacks targeting U.S. forces in Iraq. News Hour has more. US-IRAN TENSIONS US SLAPS FRESH SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAN According to U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, the latest move included sanctions on metal manufacturing and other sectors of the Iranian economy. Mnuchin also said the Treasury had designated eight senior Iranian officials for their involvement in Iran's missile strikes against the U.S. U.S. President Donald Trump said in a statement that the punishing measures aimed at denying Iran's revenue that "may be used to fund and support its nuclear program, missile development, terrorism and terrorist proxy networks, and malign regional influence". US-IRAN TENSIONS TRUMP: 4 US EMBASSIES TARGETED BY IRAN In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that the "imminent threat" from Iran might involve planned attacks on four U.S. embassies. Trump made the remarks when asked about what had been specifically targeted by Iran. Qassem Soleimani, former commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, was killed last week in U.S. drone strikes near Baghdad airport. The killing of Soleimani drew skepticism from some U.S. experts and Democratic lawmakers. They argued that Trump's decision was "provocative and disproportionate," and might trigger an uncontrolled conflict between the United States and Iran.
