China firmly opposes U.S. arms sales to Taiwan

 China resolutely opposes U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and has lodged solemn representations to the United States. 

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks at Thursday's press conference when responding to a question that U.S. government has notified Congress of a possible sale of advanced torpedoes worth 180 million U.S. dollars to Taiwan.

"China urges the United States to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, stop arms sales to and military ties with Taiwan to avoid further damage to China-U.S. relations and cross-Straits peace and stability."
