The European Union has said that the bloc continues to support the World Health Organization, urging the U.S. to reconsider its termination of ties with the WHO.

Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, and Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said in a statement that the WHO needs to continue being able to lead the international response to pandemics, current and future.
The statement said the EU continues to support the WHO in this regard and has already provided additional funding, echoing calls around the world to rally around the WHO in the fight against the coronavirus.
U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier that the U.S. is "terminating" its relationship with the WHO and redirecting the funds elsewhere.
The move has drawn criticism home and abroad.
The Irish health minister described Trump's plan as an "awful decision."
While the Cuban foreign minister said that the decision "reflects the growing isolation" of Washington, and undermines international efforts to guarantee health and save lives.
