China is making it easier for flood-hit regions to get national relief funds as continuous rainstorms have wreaked havoc across a wide swath of the country.

Now, local authorities in flood-hit areas can apply for part of the disaster relief funds from the central budget before the tallying of disaster losses is completed.

That new practice makes the funds reach those in need more quickly and efficiently.

Since the start of the flood season, China has allocated central budgetary funds for disaster relief of more than 1 billion yuan or about 165 million U.S. dollars to flood-hit regions.
