U.S. President Donald Trump has called off the public event of the upcoming Republican National Convention scheduled to be held in Florida due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

Trump said it's not the right time to have a big convention, given the fact that many U.S. states are seeing record new cases every day.
According to Johns Hopkins University, Florida has reported nearly 390,000 coronavirus cases as of Thursday.
Trump said the gathering will be held in different forms and he will still give a convention speech.
Trump planned to accept the Republican Party's presidential nomination for a second term in Jacksonville, Florida.
Previously, Trump had moved the convention from North Carolina to Florida because of restrictions on gathering due to the virus, but the surge in cases had led some Republicans to pull out of attending the Florida event.
According to a Quinnipiac University poll, more than 60 percent of registered voters in Florida think it will be unsafe to hold the RNC in Jacksonville.
