To avoid attracting crowds, much of what viewers saw on television Thursday, was not live at all, but pre-recorded. The parade was also scaled back significantly. According to report, the number of live participants was reduced by 88 percent. The annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, the world's largest parade, is presented by U.S. department store chain Macy's. Last year, more than 3.5 million parade-watchers lined the 2.5-mile route in the city.
