A senior Hong Kong official says it is imperative for Hong Kong to strengthen national security education, which plays an important role in ensuring national security and the city's prosperity and stability.

Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government Matthew Cheung made the remarks on Sunday.
Cheung blogged that the HKSAR government will make full use of the annual national Constitution Day and National Security Education Day to carry out large-scale public education.
He stressed that since the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR was implemented, the situation in Hong Kong has stabilized.
