"Make no mistake, a trial will be held in the United States Senate and there will be a vote whether to convict the president. I've spoken to Speaker Pelosi, who informed me that the articles will be delivered to the Senate on Monday."

Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, said that Trump's impeachment trial be held in February so as to give him enough time to prepare a defense.

The Democrats-controlled House voted to impeach Trump over "incitement of insurrection" in a 232-197 vote on Jan. 13, making him the first president to be impeached twice.

According to the impeachment resolution, Trump's speech to supporters who later breached the Capitol building showed the evidence of his "incitement of insurrection."
